How to Make a Gin Fizz with Vodka

In this blog post, we will be showing you how to make a Gin Fizz with vodka. This refreshing cocktail is perfect for those hot summer days when you need something to cool you down! The ingredients are simple and include just three: gin, lemon juice, and sparkling water. So let’s get started!

How to make a gin fizz with vodka

It is a simple task that can be done at home with just a few ingredients. Gin Fizz cocktails have been around since the early 1900s and continue to be one of the most popular drinks ordered in bars worldwide.

With this tutorial, you will learn how to make your gin fizz cocktail using vodka as the base spirit, along with some sugar syrup, lemon juice, and club soda.

This recipe is for a single serving drink; however, I also included the number of servings that each ingredient portion makes (in parenthesis) so that you can easily scale up or down based on your needs and preferences.

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz vodka (8 oz)
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • .5L club soda
  • 2 tbsp sugar syrup

Steps:

  1. Pour the two ounces of vodka into your cocktail shaker.
  2. Add one teaspoon of lemon juice and fill to the top with ice.
  3. Shake for at least 10 seconds, then pour out the contents into your glass (keep in mind that this recipe was made using a large martini glass, so feel free to use any type of glassware you like).
  4. Fill the empty cocktail shaker with about half a liter of club soda and place it back on top of the drink. The purpose for this is so that when you open the lid, if there are still large chunks of ice inside, they will fall back down into the shaker instead of flying everywhere. This will also help aerate the soda water.
  5. Open the lid of the cocktail shaker, hold it over the drink, and slowly pour in your sugar syrup until well mixed (the amount that I used was equal to two tablespoons). You can then add ice if you like (I think that chilling the club soda beforehand is enough), then close up your shaker and give everything a good shake for at least 10 seconds again.
  6. Pour out the contents of your shaker into your glass while holding back any chunks of ice with a spoon or even just some fingers.
  7. Add some lemon wedges if you have them available, then serve and enjoy!

What is The best vodka for Gin Fizz?

For any vodka-based drink like this gin fizz, you want to use the base spirit that is most appropriate for your tastes. The best vodkas would be ones that are clean and smooth; however, feel free to experiment with flavors if you like!

Absolut vodka

This is a great example of this, as they have so many flavors to choose from that are perfect for any mixed drink. I would recommend trying the Absolut Mint or Absolut Citron flavored vodkas because they go especially well with the recipe above.

Ketel One

If you want to save a few bucks and still get a nice clean vodka, go with Ketel One. This brand is slightly more affordable than Absolut but has the same great taste!

Grey Goose

If you want to splurge a little, go with Grey Goose. This is one of the best vodkas out there and is very clean tasting. It will also go great in any cocktail!

Smirnoff

Last but not least, I would recommend the classic Smirnoff as a good option for this Gin Fizz recipe. While it does have a little bit of a harsh taste, it is very inexpensive and works well in mixed drinks like this one.

Belvedere

If you want to go a little more high-end, check out Belvedere. This is a much pricier choice, but it offers a very smooth flavor that I think works well in this cocktail.

What is the difference between Vodka Cocktail and Gin Fizz?

There is a huge difference between gin and vodka for this drink! While they are both alcohol-based (which means that they contain ethanol), it’s the other ingredients in each one that gives them their distinctive flavors.

Vodka usually only contains water and sometimes flavoring like citric acid or fruit juices; whereas, Gin has added herbs like juniper berries to give it its own unique flavor. If you want to make your gin fizz taste more like traditional cocktails with gin, try using some of the flavored vodkas mentioned above.

What drinks go good with Gin Fizz?

Just about any drink goes well with this cocktail! It would normally be served as an apéritif right before dinner because it wakes up your taste buds. If you are looking for some other appetizer-type cocktails,

  • Bloody Mary
  • Manhattan
  • Screwdriver

Whatever you do, just remember to have fun and enjoy your drink!
